Privacy Policy

The short version
- The names you check are private: we never register, buy, sell, or share them (section 1).
- We don't sell your data or show ads (sections 2 and 7).
- We use what you do on Pranced to run it, prevent abuse, and, only in aggregate and de-identified form, to improve our grades (section 3).
- A few service providers help run Pranced, each receiving only what it needs (section 4).
- You can see, export, or delete your data anytime by asking us (section 7).
- Grades are estimates, not advice (see the Terms).
This summary is for convenience; the full policy below is what applies.
1. The names you check
The names you appraise, search, save, or test may be tied to plans you haven't made public, so:
- We don't register, buy, back-order, bid on, or sell them, and we don't let anyone else use your searches to do so.
- We don't share or publish them, except what you choose to share (a share link, a shortlist you send).
- When appraisal data improves Pranced (for example, "better than 68% of names appraised this month"), it's only as aggregate statistics that reveal no individual name or person.
- For names that are already registered (and so already public), we keep a record of the domain, its grade, and the date, with nothing linking it to you. We may later publish how past grades compared with what happened to those names. Unregistered names are never kept in this record.
2. What we collect
- Account: your email address.
- What you enter: domain names, categories, ideas, and naming briefs; watchlists, saved searches, shortlists, portfolio uploads, and notes; answers in a friend Radio Test.
- Beta: the invite code you signed up with, if you used one, or your email if you joined the waitlist.
- Messages you send us, including through the feedback form.
- Your reports and history, saved so you can return to them.
- Usage counts, so we can apply plan limits.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and a random device ID in a cookie, to prevent abuse and keep free use fair.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your full card number; we receive your plan, payment status, and limited details such as the card's last four digits.
- Friend Radio Tests: people who answer don't need an account. We keep what they typed and a scrambled (hashed) device ID so each person answers once; no names or contact details.
We don't use advertising trackers, sell data to brokers, or build advertising profiles.
3. How we use it
- To run Pranced: appraisals and searches, your history, the watchlist and alert emails you turn on, and payments.
- To keep it fair and secure: plan and free-use limits, blocking bots and abuse, and protecting accounts. Throwaway email addresses can't sign up. Free name searches are limited to a few accounts per network each week and one per browser, using a one-way scrambled network address kept about a week and a small cookie; no device fingerprinting.
- To improve accuracy: aggregate, de-identified patterns only (such as how often people misspell names in friend tests, or how grades compare with real sales), never to identify you or reveal names you checked.
- To contact you: service messages such as receipts and important changes. Marketing emails only if you opt in, with an unsubscribe link.
4. Who helps us run Pranced
We share only what each service provider needs to do its job:
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts and sign-in | Your email and plan |
| Upstash | Storage for limits, history, and saved items | What Pranced saves for you |
| Resend | Emails (sign-in links, alerts, feedback) | Your email and the message |
| Stripe | Payments (not active during the free beta) | Payment details, directly from you |
| Signa | US trademark records | Only the name, without the extension (Pro reports, and when you press Check trademark) |
| Domain registries | Registration records | Only the domain name |
| Vercel | Hosting | Standard web requests |
| Cloudflare | Bot protection at sign-up (Turnstile) | Standard browser signals for that check |
None of them receive your email address, payment details, or account information unless it's listed above. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect Pranced, our users, or the public from fraud or harm. If Pranced is sold or merged, these promises still apply to your data.
5. What others can see
Everything is private unless you share it:
- Share links and badges: anyone with the link sees that report. You can turn a link off anytime.
- Shortlists: anyone with the link sees the names and can vote; voters' names and notes are visible to others with the link.
- Friend Radio Tests: the link plays the name to whoever opens it.
6. How long we keep it
- Account and history: while your account is open, up to your plan's history limit; deleted with your account.
- Friend Radio Tests: 60 days after the last answer.
- Shortlists: 6 months after the last change or vote.
- Share links: until you turn them off or delete your account.
- Usage counters and security logs: up to [30] days.
- Aggregate statistics: kept, since they identify no one.
7. Your choices and rights
- See and export your data: [from your account / by emailing us].
- Correct your account details anytime.
- Delete your account and data: [from your account / by emailing us]. We'll do it within [30] days, except what the law makes us keep (such as payment records).
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails, and turn off watchlist and alert emails and share links anytime.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, UK, or California), you may have more rights, such as objecting to or limiting certain processing. Contact us to use them; we won't treat you differently for it. We don't sell or "share" personal information as California law defines those terms. In the EU and UK, we rely on contract (providing the service you asked for), legitimate interests (security and improving it), and your consent where we ask for it (such as marketing emails); you can complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Cookies
Only what Pranced needs to work: one to keep you signed in, a random device ID for fair-use limits, and a scrambled note of which account used this browser's free name search this week. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. [If you add analytics later, update this section.]
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is controlled, and sensitive keys are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form. No service is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as the law requires if a breach affects you.
10. Children
Pranced isn't meant for children under 13 (16 in the EU and UK), and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. International users
Pranced is run from the United States, and our providers may process data in the US and elsewhere. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
12. Changes
We'll tell you by email or on the site before important changes take effect. The effective date at the top shows the latest version.
